Magnetic Field Unit Converter (A/m ↔ µT ↔ dBpT ↔ dBµA/m)
Convert magnetic field strength (A/m), flux density (µT, mG) and levels (dBpT, dBµA/m). Editing any box updates the others instantly.
Worked example
Magnetic field strength H 1 A/m, Magnetic flux density B 1.25664 µT, Flux density level 121.984 dBpT, Field strength level 120 dBµA/m, Flux density B (gauss) 12.5664 mG
Formula
B = µ₀·H (µ₀ = 4π×10⁻⁷ H/m)
1 A/m = 1.2566 µT = 121.98 dBpT = 120 dBµA/m
1 µT = 10 mG
How it works
Standards use different magnetic field units. Emission tests use dBpT or dBµA/m, immunity tests use A/m, and exposure assessments use µT or mG. In air B = µ₀·H (µ₀ = 4π×10⁻⁷ H/m), so 1 A/m = 1.2566 µT = 121.98 dBpT = 120 dBµA/m, and 1 µT = 10 mG. For the dB forms, flux density is referenced to 1 pT and field strength to 1 µA/m; both are amplitude quantities, so 20·log₁₀ applies.
Practical tipThis conversion holds only where the relative permeability is 1, such as air or vacuum. It does not apply to flux density inside iron or ferrite. Check whether the value in your standard is H or B, and whether the reference is pT or µA/m, before converting.
