dBµV/m ↔ V/m Field Strength Converter
Convert field strength between dBµV/m, mV/m and V/m so you can compare emission limits with immunity test levels.
Worked example
80 dBµV/m = 10 mV/m = 0.01 V/m
Formula
E(V/m) = 10^((E(dBµV/m) − 120) / 20)
E(dBµV/m) = 20·log₁₀(E(V/m)) + 120
How it works
Radiated-emission limits are customarily written in dBµV/m while radiated-immunity test levels are written in V/m. To compare them you need one unit. 1 V/m equals 120 dBµV/m, so 10 V/m is 140 dBµV/m.
Practical tipAn emission limit of 40 dBµV/m (0.1 mV/m) and a 3 V/m immunity level (about 129.5 dBµV/m) differ by roughly 90 dB, a factor of 30 000 in field strength. A handy reminder that emission and immunity tests work in very different sensitivity regimes.
