Radiated Emission Limit Check Sheet

Enter the receiver reading and correction factors (antenna factor, cable, attenuator, preamp) per frequency and the sheet computes field strength in dBµV/m and the margin to the limit. With an expanded uncertainty (U) it also separates “within the limit even with uncertainty” from “overlaps the uncertainty band”.

dB

Leave 0 if you do not know your uncertainty. The verdict compares the margin with U.

Fill in the frequency column first, then pick a preset to fill the limit column. These are quasi-peak limits for 30 MHz–1 GHz; at the band edge (230 MHz) the stricter limit applies. Rows with an empty or out-of-range frequency are left unchanged.

Column order: frequency, reading, antenna factor, cable, limit (5 columns) or frequency, reading, antenna factor, cable, attenuator, preamp, limit (7 columns). Comma, tab and semicolon separators are detected.

How to use

  • The reading is the dBµV value shown by your receiver. If you have dBm from a spectrum analyzer, convert it first with the dBm→dBµV calculator (+107 at 50 Ω).
  • Field strength E = reading + antenna factor + cable + attenuator − preamp gain. Enter preamp gain as a positive number.
  • Empty cable, attenuator and preamp cells count as 0 dB.
  • Margin = limit − field strength. Margin with U = margin − U.
  • Rather than typing limits by hand, enter the frequencies and use a standard limit preset. Preset values are for reference; confirm the final limits against the standard itself.

Verdict rules

VerdictConditionMeaning
Within limit (with U)margin − U ≥ 0Below the limit even allowing for uncertainty
Overlaps uncertainty0 ≤ margin < UMeasured value is under the limit but uncertainty prevents a clear call
Over the limitmargin < 0Measured value exceeds the limit
Whether an “overlap” counts as pass or fail depends on your laboratory’s decision rule (for example ILAC-G8 or the uncertainty clauses of the standard) and the certifier’s requirements. This sheet only shows which side you are on; it is not an official verdict.
