Short summaries of new editions and amendments of EMC standards such as CISPR, IEC 61000, EN and KN, based on official announcements.
Only changes confirmed in official announcements (IEC, the EU Official Journal, national authorities) are listed, summarised in our own words. Always check the official text for application dates and detailed limits.
The FCC strengthened its equipment authorization rules (47 CFR Part 2) for supply-chain security. EMC test methods and limits are not changed.
Devices with logic-bearing parts made by an entity on the FCC Covered List cannot be authorized where the device would be prohibited had that entity made the whole device.
Any modification or permissive change by a Covered List entity now needs full certification.
Online marketplaces must show the FCC ID at the point of sale: from 2027-03-01 where they hold or handle the device, and from 2027-06-01 where they rely on third-party seller data.
IEC 61000-6-3 Edition 4.0 (2026) published: magnetic field and 9–150 kHz added to the residential generic emission standard
Replaces Edition 3.0 (2020) of the generic emission standard for residential, commercial and light-industrial locations. It applies where no product-family standard exists.
Adds magnetic field emission requirements, including measurement of the wireless power transfer (WPT) function.
Conducted emission requirements for low-voltage AC mains ports now cover 9 kHz to 150 kHz.
Products with a radio function are now in scope, and fully anechoic room (FAR) limits are added for rack-mounted equipment.
The European version EN IEC 61000-6-3:2026 was published on 2026-05-28; the previous EN IEC 61000-6-3:2021 may still be used until 2029-05-31 (DOW).
A technical revision that replaces Edition 2.0 (2008). Test levels (contact 2, 4, 6, 8 kV; air 2, 4, 8, 15 kV) are unchanged.
The current calibration procedure for ESD generators is improved, and a calibration requirement with the air discharge tip fitted is added.
New annexes cover test setups for particular equipment (normative Annex I), wearable devices (informative Annex J) and selecting test points and the number of contact discharges (informative Annex E).
Measurement uncertainty guidance now includes example budgets, and post-installation tests moved to informative Annex G because they cannot be done in a controlled environment.
CISPR 11 Edition 7.0 (2024) published: limits above 1 GHz for Group 1 equipment
A technical revision that replaces Edition 6.0 (2015) with Amendments 1 and 2.
Group 1 equipment now has radiated emission limits above 1 GHz, in line with the generic emission standards.
Adds conducted emission limits for wired network ports, requirements for equipment with radio functions, and robot definitions and measurement conditions.
